When I was little, my grandma was an English teacher for the military, leading her to live in Russia, Italy, and Germany for the first decade of my life. While I don’t recall seeing her more than once or twice before I was in middle school, I know her voice better than anyone’s.
She recorded about a half dozen, give or take, cassette tapes of her reading children books that I would listen to incessantly. The two that stick out most are Tikki Tikki Tembo and Froggy Eats Out. At a ripe 29 years of age, I can still hear her reading these to me.
What a way to send love!!!!! I’ve been feeling particularly sad recently that I don’t have them anymore, but while typing this, I’ve decided I’ll just buy a few books and ask her to record them for me again.
